NEXT-LEVEL MATERIAL SCIENCE

Inside Roadlab’s Rock Mechanics Laboratory

Inside the new Roadlab Rock Mechanics Unit

With the facility now fully installed and calibrated, our teams are carrying out initial verification testing to confirm repeatability, accuracy, and consistency across all systems. This early testing phase is critical — ensuring that every result we take to market is backed by proven performance, not assumptions.

With installation and calibration of the facility now complete, our specialists are conducting structured verification testing to confirm that each instrument is producing consistent, repeatable, and reliable results.

This early testing is essential. Before any external work is undertaken, every method must demonstrate stability and reproducibility under controlled conditions — ensuring that results issued later are defensible, traceable, and fit for purpose.

To support this work, a dedicated soil preparation area has been established within the laboratory. This space allows samples to be reduced, conditioned, and brought to specification prior to testing, ensuring that analytical results reflect true material behaviour rather than preparation variability. It also enables more efficient handling of rugged sample types typically encountered in geotechnical and pavement investigations.

Together, these preparations mark the transition of the Rock Mechanics Laboratory from build phase to operational use. By focusing first on internal validation, method discipline, and workflow refinement, Roadlab is ensuring that the facility is client-ready in the truest sense — equipped not only with advanced instrumentation, but with the processes and controls required to deliver dependable insight from day one.design NME applications at a national scale.

Bringing New Capabilities to Market

With the Rock Mechanics Laboratory now calibrated and completed, Roadlab will soon be generating reliable and verifiable data to support construction decisions made this year.

If your projects demand deeper material insight and results you can rely on, this is where that work begins.
