Our Work Begins

Our teams have been involved in a R500 million road widening and reconstruction of the N2 from Green River to Buffalo River Bridge since 2021.

“The fruits of this major investments will be life changing and of great benefit to these communities, for generations.”

Expected to last 3 years, the project scope includes the construction of 3 new bridges.

Dedicated Site Lab Technicians Vusi Mavrega and Thando Ngaki have diligently captured much of the construction throughout their time on the project.

The Project

The N2 Green River project focuses on Sections 14 and 15 on the N2.

The works include extensive road-widening and reconstruction in order to improve the level of service to road users. Improvements to road alignment and safety at intersections have also been incorporated into the new infrastructure, expected to be complete in April 2024.

The scope of the project extends to the construction of 3 new bridges; one over the Tshoxa River, a second over the Tshoxa River and a third over the Buffalo River in King Williams Town.

The project represents a portion of the R7bn spent by SANRAL in the Eastern Cape this financial year. Other projects include the special maintenance of the R75 national road in Jansenville to the R63/R75 intersection (R125m) and the Breidbach and Belstone interchanges project in the Buffalo City Metro (R437m).

Our Work

We joined the project as the dedicated site laboratory, assessing earthworks and ground conditions while performing all necessary quality assurance testing for soils and asphalt.

Due to the immense amount of earthworks and layer works, the project has required comprehensive density and soil performance testing.

The rigorous asphalt and riding quality requirements necessitated that fresh and cored samples were regularly evaluated from the on-site laboratory.

We provided many of these soil and asphalt conformance services on a daily basis, providing a high level of assurance for a project that will one day benefit tens of thousands of road users.
